Soul-centered psychology teaches us to navigate consciously in the body, mind and emotions but only in order to harmonize and ultimately transcend them. Our highest potential is to identify and align our consciousness to the soul. The aspiration to evolve in consciousness provides a means to attain a deep life purpose, congruence and harmony between body, mind, emotions and also nature and society. Consciously harnessing the breath naturally shifts the axis of our consciousness from ego to soul. The way to our soul is not necessarily straightforward. We may have to address countless blockages, resistance and other obstacles along the way. The breath is a powerful tool for bringing awareness of all thoughts, beliefs and repressed emotions that drive us away from our own soul. We may observe the change in our breathing pattern when we experience a negative emotion. When this occurs, we can intuitively modify the breath or receive guidance to help us release the obstructions and eventually gain mastery over our negative emotions, beliefs and patterns. The breath can help us to turn an emotional minefield into a field of grass. We end up in a state of deep calm and self-mastery. Meditation, profound relaxation and deep states of consciousness are often accompanied by increasingly subtle types of breath.
The human mind is said to have unlimited potential and this potential isn’t merely limited to physical, emotional or intellectual capacities. It has the potential to extend way beyond these basic functionings to increasingly subtle awareness and higher states of consciousness.
Ultimately awareness and mastery of our breath helps us discover and cultivate a relationship with our inner light or our spiritual nature. It brings deeper understanding, meaning and a potential for harmony, creativity, greater intuition and transcendent experiences of Oneness, light, joy and love.
